Why Your Muscles Are Tight
One of the most common questions we get, whether it be on the phone with a new practice member or an existing practice member, is, “Should I get a massage before or after chiropractic care?”
I love massage. We work with a lot of massage therapists here in town. But what you need to understand—and the only reason I have a job in healthcare—is about this small, but it’s the most vital: you have to have that proper joint motion, okay?
The reason the muscles are tight is that the brain is locking them down because it doesn’t want any more damage to occur. So when you go and rub them, they’ll be loose temporarily, but they’re going to flare back up.
Get Your Joints Moving First
If your problem is related to chiropractic—if it’s a stuck joint, whether it be the skull, the neck, or the back—you need to get your joints moving first.
Then, once you’re feeling better, we definitely like to refer people, especially if it’s a chronic situation, to massage therapy to get the fascia better. This way, you can hold your adjustments.
See you on the next one.
